Psychotherapy & Counselling

in Wandsworth, South West London

Welcome, and thank you for visiting Silvana's Lifeskills.

Hi, my name is Silvana and I have been a practicing Psychotherapy in Wandsworth for over 15 years. I am committed to providing counselling and psychotherapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment. I offer short and long term therapy including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

As an Integrative Psychotherapist in Wandsworth SW18, I believe that who we are and how we are in the world is shaped by our ongoing experiences. Likewise what we believe about ourselves and other and the way that we understand things will be heavily influenced by the beliefs we developed at a very young age.

As a child we spend our times busily learning about ourselves through play and interaction with other children.

Our learning and subsequent beliefs will be shaped by significant people in our lives (ie teachers, parents, best friends etc), along with life events - the mundane day to day activities as well as major events and milestones.

We often learn as a child either through being told, peer pressure or our own observations of ‘how to behave’ in the world. We quickly learn what not to do in front of friends, family etc. if we are to be ‘accepted’.

This could include shutting down our feelings, altering the way we behave, changing the way we speak. We want to 'fit in' and be accepted and we learn how to behave in ways that as a adult we would not do.

As a adult, these learnt behaviours can restrict us and prevent us from living a fulfilling life. They have an impact on our relationships as well as our self esteem.

Psychotherapy can help to unravel some of these beliefs and develop a healthy curiosity, and then question the appropriateness and relevance of these beliefs in our lives as adults.

I work with individuals as a psychotherapist on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and to live it more fully.

Some frequently asked questions

What are your fees and availability?

Each therapy session lasts for fifty minutes at a cost of £60.00 per session. There is no charge for cancellations or changes to your therapy session up to 24 hours before the appointment. After this time all sessions will be charged in full. Please ensure all payments are made before the next therapy session.

Will the work be confidential?

YES, Confidentiality is an important component in the sense of safety that is essential in a therapeutic relationship. I adhere to the UKCP Code of Ethics and Professional Practice.

Confidentiality means that you can discuss whatever you need to and feel safe in the knowledge that the information will not leave the room.

I take my responsibility to work confidentially very seriously. There are times however, on very rare occasions when I will need to break confidentiality for professional reasons - where there is a risk of danger either to yourself or others and in these circumstances I will consult with you on all matters beforehand.

What happens if I cannot attend one week?

Once we commence our work together, that day and time is allocated solely for your use. It is 'your time' and 'your space'. Like all things in life the unexpected can and does happen. Should this occur and you are not able to make the appointment I will endeavour to try and find another time for you that week.

What happens next?

You can either contact me by phone on 07949068680 or email me at silvanatharratt@msn.com. I endeavour to return all calls and emails within 24 hours with a view to an appointment within 7 days.

During the assessment you will have an opportunity to discuss what brought you to therapy and I will take down some details of your family history and your relationships. At the end of the fifty minutes you can decide whether you feel that we can work together.

How long will I have to come?

This will depend on you and your requirements. Some people just want to work out one issue that they are grappling with, others who have more deep-seated issues to do with their childhood, relationships, and identity will come for months or even years. Each therapy is tailor made to your individual needs and requirements. We can discuss this when we meet in more detail.
